The Role of Antioxidants

                                                                        Oxidative Stress

  • Oxidative stress is a condition characterized by an imbalance between pro-oxidants & antioxidants within the body.
  • It has been linked to the aging process.
  • There is a growing body of scientific evidence that suggests that a diet high in fruits & vegetables helps prevent oxidative stress.
  • The chemicals in fruits & vegetables that are thought to be responsible in helping to prevent oxidative stress are called antioxidants. These antioxidants neutralize free radicals that are formed through stress & normal metabolism of our cells.
  • In our modern diet, we eat insufficient quantities of vine-ripened fruits & vegetables.
  • We do not absorb the necessary amounts of antioxidants to quench these free radicals produced through stress & normal metabolism.
  • We must supplement our diets with the proper antioxidants in a quantity sufficient enough to neutralize the free radicals & prevent damage to our cells.
  • The proper antioxidant supplement should closely resemble food.
