The Role of Antioxidants

Many people take antioxidants to counter the effects of free radicals. There are fruits & vegetables that are high in antioxidants.

For example, carotenoids are found in carrots & tomatoes and watermelons contain lycopene. Berries are some of the most antioxidant-rich fruits available.

But by simply eating healthy, there are many reasons why you may still need to supplement your diet. You should also not completely restrict your diet to a particular food source since there are many different classes of antioxidants that are importnat to our health & wellbeing.

Remember:

  • Most fruits & vegetables today are grown in nutrient-depleted soils.
  • Most fruits & vegetables today are not eaten fresh, let alone grown organically
  • Most everyone does not eat enough fruits & vegetables (9 to 18 servings per day)
  • Eating a lot of fruits & vegetables can result in bloating, gas and are expensive
