What Doctors Were Trained Prior to 1996 All that most doctors know about sugars is that they are burned for energy. End of story. Prior to 1996, you can’t find a chapter in a medical student’s biochemistry textbook on Glycobiology & Glyconutrition. One reason is because much of the health potential of these essential sugars has only recently emerged. Another reason is the hesitancy of the medical profession to acknowledge the therapeutic benefit of nutrients rather than prescription drugs. There are scores of studies on these nutrients in the medical literature, but the majority of doctors have no idea what they do or how to use them.

- Consuming high levels of refined carbohydrates, grains & sugars is NOT good for your overall health.
- The established medical community, for the most part, was educated years ago about carbohydrates, and this education has not increased in recent years.
- Historically, most physicians were educated that carbohydrates were for “energy”.
